Collaboration between Peacepainting and Narvik War and Peace Centre.
Peacepainting had a collaboration with Narvik War and Peace Centre and created a youth exchange that took place in Bindal, Norway.
The War and Peace Centre was built in Narvik, as this city was particularly hard hit during the WW2. The centre now works to build peace through knowledge of war.
The youth exchange we created in collaboration with Narvik War and Peace Centre, took place in a remote district in Norway named Bindal.
Here, we invited young people from Croatia and Tunisia, as well as refugees from Eritrea that had recently immigrated to Bindal.
The project was called “The World is our Canvas”.
Youth from
Croatia
Norway
Tunisia
Eritrea
met for our project
set in the wild nature of
Bindal, Norway
An important part of this project was to strengthen solidarity, democracy, friendship and knowledge of other cultures.
Narvik War and Peace Centre brought lots of activities and tasks that were aimed at challenging the mindset and perspective of the youth.
We in Peacepainting had the same goal and message, with the difference being that the youth had the opportunity to formulate themselves on the canvas instead.
The combination of the work by Peacepainting and Narvik War and Peace Centre provided a complete learning package.
We also introduced the youth to the local specialties in this remote, coastal village in Norway. They had the opportunity to hike, visit an island and sail in a traditional boat named Faragut.
The paintings were exhibited at Bindal Museum, Norway.
